What Does It Mean to Be

Wrapped in Nature?

To be a model in this show is to share your unique gift of connection with the natural world. You will embody living materials—you are wearing nature—and offer that relationship to a live audience, inviting them to feel the exchange of energy between human and environment. Each look is constructed from natural materials foraged from Rhode Island’s environmental habitats. I will share the story of your piece with you and ask that you translate what you hear into movement and poses. Through your expression, the audience will gain a deeper understanding of how nature lives within us.

Time Commitment

  • 30–45 minutes: Fitting at my studio, approximately two weeks before the show
  • 3 hours: Dress rehearsal and live performance on the day of the show

Fitting Details

Because these pieces are unlike traditional garments—and many include sculptural headpieces made from grapevines—a studio fitting is essential. Please wear leggings or biker shorts and a tank with thin straps.

The fitting will take 30–45 minutes and allows me to select the most fitting piece for you and make any necessary adjustments in advance. Headpieces, in particular, require precise fitting to ensure comfort and stability on the runway.

Hair, Makeup & Footwear

I favor minimal makeup to highlight your natural beauty. Hair will be kept simple, as each look incorporates a headpiece. Once your headpiece is selected, we can discuss hair details. Depending on the venue, models may walk barefoot; if footwear is required, a simple, nondescript sandal is preferred.

Dress Rehearsal

Dress rehearsal begins two hours before the show. We will start with movement exercises, during which I’ll share words, imagery, and movement prompts specific to each look. You’ll have time to explore and practice at your own pace before we complete a full run-through of the show, ensuring everyone feels confident navigating the space.
